Asking How Will Kill Your Success

In my opinion this is the number one question you can ask that is an indicator that you’re not going to succeed. The question is “How?”. If you ask that question at all, “How is this going to work out?” it’s not going to be the best for you and your success in your business. This is straight from my own personal experience and is me all the way to the core. I loved understanding how, I had to understand how and what is the perfect business. I wanted to know what the best and right way to do things was before I took action. When you ask how, your mind’s going to automatically engage in seeking out tons of information from outside sources to give you this answer on how to do it before you take action. That’s literally the wrong mindset to have from the get go so when you start out with that mindset of trying to figure out how first you’re already set up for failure. The issue is that you’ll never find the best way to do something because you don’t know until you try it. It’s a loop that I get stuck in time and time again. I keep getting stuck in asking “Should I do this, I don’t know if it’s the right thing?” and there’s no way to know if it’s the right thing or not until I take action.

That’s the trick, that’s the key to success in business, life and everything you do is taking that step first. My whole career I was a pipefitter/plumber that’s what I’d spent my whole career doing up until the end of 2017. Piping and Plumbing is what I had thought was going to be where I got most of my business when I started Welderbeast LLC. I fell into something else instead, if I would have just been waiting for the perfect plan on how to step out as a plumber/pipefitter I would have missed all the opportunities I’ve had that has been outside of piping. What I did was I took that step first instead of worrying about being the perfect pipefitter or mechanical contractor I just took the step and starting a welding business. Then after I took the step, opportunities opened themselves up to me.

I’ve got a lot of opportunities, most of my work is all opportunity that has been afforded me simply because I took the step first and it was then opened up to me. I could have more work if I put even more effort into actually reaching and aspiring for specific work that I need but I’m just telling you right now the work opportunities I have by just taking that first step has provided for my family for the last two years. I didn’t know how I was going to be able to because that’s what I started out with, it wasn’t about being a welding business. I started out with that simple goal in mind was I want to provide for my family that was it. I didn’t let worrying about how it was going to happen stop me from moving forward.

It’s taken me a long time to get where I’m at and I still am not over asking how from time to time but I just keep moving forward. When I started I was worried about how I was going to stay home and provide for my family in a place that most people said it was impossible, in Arkansas! Do you know this is one of the states that has the lowest incomes in the United States, yet I’m touching numbers now that I was making in Alaska(a high income state). That was supposed to be impossible but I’m doing it! I couldn’t tell you how I did it, I don’t know if anything I did was how I got it. I don’t know if it was all me, I mean it could have been the right guy talked to the right person or I was in the right place at the right time. Or better yet, somebody up stairs is looking out for me. I don’t know, I can’t take credit for all of it. All I know is I took action and I said yes and that’s the thing that I can take credit for!

Don’t get hung up on how you’re going to do something get it clear inside your mind what it is you want, what it is you’re trying to achieve for yourself, your family, your life, your lifestyle, your success and your dreams. Find out what it is and then just take a step forward because there is not a perfect business or a perfect path that you can follow. Life and business are not like a GPS, you don’t get to type in the coordinates and you get step by step directions. They are more like a compass, you know the one goal you’re shooting for and it’s just going to point true to that . You have to walk through a lot and sometimes you’re going to come up on a lake you’ve got to go round. You might come upon a mountain and either climb up the thing or go around it. You are going to make it to your destination because you took out a compass you might be going North for a little while and then when you get around that lake or that mountain or whatever it is you needed to get around you know you’re headed back West towards your goal. Don’t worry too much about the how because you’re going to hit bumps and nothing goes according to plan.

Plans will do you no good because nothing will work out like you had planned except the end part on what you’re trying to achieve. I hope that was helpful to you and I hope you saw where I was trying to go with that. You will learn how as you go but don’t let it be the the barrier first before you start playing. Get out there and play and you’ll figure out the how as you go. As scary as that sounds, it’s the only way it works. You only figure it out as you’re walking, tripping, failing, falling and then you get back up and figure out the next step. You want to keep pushing outside your comfort zone because that’s where you will find success. The reason why it’s outside your comfort zone is because it will always be in the action of seeking out the unknown and having no idea what to do until you get out there, and then figuring it out.

  1. Nice post. I learn something new and challenging on blogs I stumbleupon on a daily basis. It’s always exciting to read content from other writers and use a little something from their web sites.
